Exciting Development at Pinehill

Pinehill Hospital is one of Hertfordshire’s leading private hospitals with an excellent reputation for delivering high quality private hospital treatment. Situated in tranquil, wooded surroundings, Pinehill provides a peaceful environment to aid a speedy recovery. 

Here at Pinehill, what makes us a great place to work is that we place a high emphasis on developing our employees. Training opportunities are vast and readily available to everyone.

Hospital Manager Chris Burrows has experienced first-hand the opportunities to develop within the company having started at our Oaks Hospital as Matron and then undertaking our leadership programme in which he also completed an MBA. “I joined Ramsay in 2014 as a hospital matron and I wanted to develop my career with a company who shared the same values as me. I had the opportunity to join the senior manager development programme within 2 years of joining and I am now working with the excellent team at Pinehill Hospital”.

In fact Chris is not the only member of the Senior Management Team here at Pinehill to have been promoted within the hospital. Our Matron Karen Doyle joined the Pinehill in 2010, initially as the Theatre Manager. “Pinehill Hospital is a great place to work, the friendly atmosphere of my team and its diversity make every day a pleasure. I am also a prime example of how Pinehill enhances career development through investing in people. I started in the position of Theatre Manager in 2010 and since then have received excellent training and development opportunities. I have recently been successful in promotion into the role of Matron for the hospital. I am both excited and enthusiastic about this opportunity and will strive to ensure the care we provide is safe and giving good outcomes to our patients”.

When Karen was appointed Matron, the role of Theatre Manager also led to internal promotion with Dor Smith being successful in her application. Dor is now using her new role as manager to develop her team with many completing training in First Assist, ALS and more.

It is not just management positions which have benefitted from development opportunities. Pinehill Hospital is very proud to have two of our Health Care Assistants starting on the new Nursing Apprenticeship this year. When Ramsay announced that it would be running a Nursing apprenticeship scheme, something not widely offered amongst the Private healthcare industry, we knew we wanted to make this available to our employees at Pinehill. We were delighted when we secured two positions on the first enrolment and we are excited to support both Aleksandra and Shannon on this journey.

When the government introduced the Apprenticeship Levy in April 2017, we saw this as another opportunity to really utilise training development to encourage and invest in our employees. At the moment we have 12 apprentices working within the hospital and we also have many other employees accessing training made available via the apprenticeship scheme in areas such as Theatres, Pre Assessment, Wards, Outpatients, Admin and Maintenance.

With increasing levels of activity, we are now looking to grow our team and allow us to continue to meet the needs of our patients.
