Top tips for Managing Inflammatory Eye Conditions

Inflammatory Eye

Could you have an inflammatory eye condition?  Mr Samir Mahmood, Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon, lists 5 reasons why it may be time to check your eyes:

  • Inflammation could affect all the eye layers and the eye socket
  • Although eye inflammation may be an isolated process involving only the eye, it can also be associated with a systemic condition
  • In some cases, the eye inflammation may actually precede the development of inflammation at other body sites
  • The goal of medical management of inflammation is to effectively control inflammation so as to eliminate or reduce the risk of vision loss from complications that result from uncontrolled inflammation
  • Generally, medical therapy includes topical eye drops to relax the eye ciliary muscle, topical or systemic nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and topical or systemic corticosteroids (cortisone)
